The winners of the TÜV AUSTRIA Science Prize 2023 have been chosen

114 applications were received for the twelfth edition of the TÜV AUSTRIA Science Prize, and three projects won. The prize is endowed with 15,000 euros and was awarded on November 27th. forgive.

The last few months have been heavily influenced by energy crises on the one hand and sustainability movements on the other. The projects awarded the TÜV AUSTRIA Science Prize 2023 are the best example of how it is worth turning a few screws and optimizing processes in order to pave the way to a secure future with the responsible use of resources. This is in line with the efforts of TÜV AUSTRIA as a globally active group of companies. We are committed to making a relevant contribution to industry, the economy and society by acting responsibly and sustainably – in the spirit of future generations

Vienna/Linz/Klagenfurt (OTS) Of 114 submissions in the Categories “Universities – Dissertations”, “Universities/Universities of Applied Sciences – Diploma/Master’s Theses” and “HTL Theses” could nine projectsbehind those 15 actors stand, the expert jury of TÜV AUSTRIA Science Prize were particularly convincing and ended up on the shortlist. The award ceremony of the twelfth TÜV AUSTRIA Science Prizewhich offers a stage for outstanding projects, took place on November 27th in the dome hall Vienna University of Technology instead of. Around 250 guests attended the gala evening on site, and numerous users followed the award ceremony online via live stream. This led through the evening ORF journalist and author Lisa Gadenstätter as a moderator.

The best of the best were chosen

In the category “Universities – Dissertations“ sat down the mechatronics engineer IN Dr. Thomas Bergmayr of the Johannes Kepler University in Linz against strong scientific competition. As part of his Dissertation He developed a model for continuous structural monitoring of aircraft during flight, which predicts the health status of a component and thus enables early detection of damage.

DI Alexander Gall, BScMasterstudium Visual Computing, TU Viennaconvinced in the category “Universities/technical colleges – diploma/master’s theses”. Non-destructive testing, for example through imaging processes, plays a major role in Industry 4.0 – and here primarily in the area of component and material testing. Gall developed as part of his master thesis a 3D visualization system where experts can use virtual reality to more easily analyze the structure of materials and discover effects. This makes the evaluation of the test data much easier and thus achieves more precise results.

The project „Blackout-Simulator“ Maturantenteams Christian Gerold, Dominik Mitterfellner, Florian Ortner and Silvana Oberhauser the HTL Klagenfurt Mössingerstraße (Electrical Engineering) won in the Category “HTL theses”. In order to be well prepared for an emergency and to increase awareness of the energy problem, they developed a blackout simulation that is accessible to everyone and helps in a playful way to understand the complex connections of the power grid and energy distribution in the background. Users can trigger blackouts themselves via touchscreens and observe the effects on the power grid in the test system.

The idea of sustainability is in the foreground

This year, too, the submissions included numerous innovative solutions using resource-saving technologies. “The last few months have been strongly influenced by energy crises on the one hand and sustainability movements on the other.
