BEFORE: Public transport turbo for night owls started

Evening and night connections by bus and train ensure a safe and comfortable journey home – from late at night to early in the morning.

Vienna/St. Pölten/Eisenstadt (OTS) A longer dinner, a social gathering with friends, a New Year’s Eve walk, a carnival party and ball, a concert or an evening at the theater in the federal capital… There are many good reasons to turn night into day. But how to get home safely and reliably? This problem for many night owls from the Vienna area has been solved since December 10, 2023: New train and bus connections ensure a safe, comfortable and cheap journey home on nights before Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. All connections are under AnachB.VOR.at or the VOR AnachB app.

Since December 10, 2023, there have been numerous new late connections and gap closures as well as additional night connections to the Vienna area, such as to Ebreichsdorf, Neusiedl am See, Stockerau, Korneuburg, Schwechat, Wiener Neudorf or Tulln. The new night services complement the existing range of night buses and trains and are linked to the existing night subways and inner-city night buses in Vienna. Together, the existing and new offers ensure a relaxed journey home from late at night to early in the morning.

City Councilor Peter Hanke (Vienna): Night owls in and around Vienna are safe and environmentally friendly

“The city of Vienna has been investing in the safe and environmentally friendly mobility of its citizens for years. With the new connections, in addition to the successful night subways and S-Bahn trains within Vienna, we are also making the entire metropolitan region accessible to night owls using public transport.”

LH deputy Udo Landbauer (Lower Austria): The right offer at the right time

“Our compatriots and families who travel by public transport in the evening or at night should get home safely and reliably. With the new additional connections, we are creating an unprecedented offering of better quality. Our Lower Austrians in the suburbs in particular benefit from this, but also far beyond. The performance offensive in night traffic opens up completely new avenues for commuters, young people and night owls. It is particularly important that the trains are punctual and reliable.”

Provincial Councilor Heinrich Dorner (Burgenland): New offers also for our commuters
“Anyone who works outside of normal office hours needs a safe, comfortable and affordable mobility solution. For commuters from Burgenland who work in the healthcare system, the police or the hospitality industry, we now offer further better, more reliable connections to home or work – a next step in making the switch to public transport more attractive.”

VOR management Karin Zipperer and Wolfgang Schroll: Bringing people together
“With the existing and new night services, we are bringing people in this growing and vibrant mobility region even closer together.”

Dense late-night traffic as standard in the eastern region

Even beyond the night connections described, the range of public transport options has been expanded late in the evening and at night in recent years. Today, the last departure from Vienna on most railway routes is possible around midnight or even later every day. If you want to catch a connecting connection from St. Pölten or Wiener Neustadt, you can leave Vienna until around 11 p.m. On weekends (Friday night to Saturday, Saturday night to Sunday and the nights before public holidays), trains sometimes run an hour longer; this also affects connecting connections.

Hundreds of timetable improvements since December 10, 2023

In total, hundreds of changes were implemented on all train routes and bus routes. The railway area in the eastern region alone was expanded by 3.2 million km per year, which corresponds to around 6% of annual output. The bus service largely involves adjustments in the minute range, for example to achieve better accessibility to locations or to ensure transfer connections. Passengers are asked to check their personal connection. The VOR timetable services are available for this purpose www.VOR.at/fahrplan and AnachB.VOR.at or the VOR AnachB app.

Eastern Region Transport Association (VOR)

As the largest transport association in Austria, VOR combines public transport in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. VOR is entrusted with the planning, coordination and optimization of public transport for around one billion passengers every year in these three federal states. The core tasks include tariff and timetable design as well as customer service and the awarding of transport services. In addition, regional and city bus services as well as part of the rail transport services in the eastern region are commissioned by VOR. The transport association’s experts also act as initiators and contacts for intelligent and intermodal mobility beyond the eastern region.
