BEFORE: Public transport turbo for night owls started

Evening and night connections by bus and train ensure a safe and comfortable journey home – from late at night to early in the morning.

Vienna/St. Pölten/Eisenstadt (OTS) A longer dinner, a social gathering with friends, a New Year’s Eve walk, a carnival party and ball, a concert or an evening at the theater in the federal capital… There are many good reasons to turn night into day. But how to get home safely and reliably? This problem for many night owls from the Vienna area has been solved since December 10, 2023: New train and bus connections ensure a safe, comfortable and cheap journey home on nights before Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. All connections are under AnachB.VOR.at or the VOR AnachB app.

Since December 10, 2023, there have been numerous new late connections and gap closures as well as additional night connections to the Vienna area, such as to Ebreichsdorf, Neusiedl am See, Stockerau, Korneuburg, Schwechat, Wiener Neudorf or Tulln. The new night services complement the existing range of night buses and trains and are linked to the existing night subways and inner-city night buses in Vienna. Together, the existing and new offers ensure a relaxed journey home from late at night to early in the morning.

On the nights before Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays

Night S-Bahn and Badner Bahn run every 30 minutes:

  • Handelskai – Hütteldorf (S45)
  • Mödling – Meidling – Vienna main route (eight stops between Meidling and Floridsdorf) – Floridsdorf – Leopoldau
  • Jedlersdorf – Floridsdorf – Rennweg – Schwechat (S3/S7)
  • Vienna Opera, Karlsplatz – Wiener Neudorf (Badner Bahn)

Night S-Bahn trains every hour, both directly from the Vienna main line:

  • Schwechat – Main route Vienna – Jedlersdorf – Stockerau
  • Main route Vienna – Mödling – Wiener Neustadt

Individual additional late connections, such as:

  • S40: Vienna Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof (from 2:37 a.m.) – Tulln Stadt (at 3:25 a.m.) (supplements existing night buses on line 413 from Heiligenstadt: 01:25 a.m. and 3:25 a.m.)
  • REX41: Vienna Franz-Josefs-Bahnhof (from 11:28 p.m.) – Sigmundsherberg (at 12:41 a.m.)
  • S60: Vienna Central Station (from 1:11 a.m.) – Ebreichsdorf (at 1:40 a.m.) – Wiener Neustadt (at 2:07 a.m.)
  • S60: Vienna Central Station (from 1:50 a.m.) – Bruck/Leitha (2:31 a.m.) – Neusiedl/See (at 2:43 a.m.)
  • REX6: Vienna Central Station (from 11:23 p.m.) – Deutschkreutz (at 1:48 a.m.)
  • REX63: Vienna Central Station (from 11:18 p.m.) – Pamhagen (at 12:38 a.m.)
  • R81: Vienna Central Station (from 00:52 a.m.) – Marchegg (at 01:45 a.m.)

Dense late-night traffic as standard in the eastern region

Even beyond the night connections described, the range of public transport options has been expanded late in the evening and at night in recent years. Today, the last departure from Vienna on most railway routes is possible around midnight or even later every day. If you want to catch a connecting connection from St. Pölten or Wiener Neustadt, you can leave Vienna until around 11 p.m. On weekends (Friday night to Saturday, Saturday night to Sunday and the nights before public holidays), trains sometimes run an hour longer; this also affects connecting connections.

Hundreds of timetable improvements since December 10, 2023

In total, hundreds of changes were implemented on all train routes and bus routes. The railway area in the eastern region alone was expanded by 3.2 million km per year, which corresponds to around 6% of annual output. The bus service largely involves adjustments in the minute range, for example to achieve better accessibility to locations or to ensure transfer connections. Eastern Region Transport Association (VOR)

As the largest transport association in Austria, VOR combines public transport in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. VOR is entrusted with the planning, coordination and optimization of public transport for around one billion passengers every year in these three federal states.
