In 2023, BlueCruise became the first system of its kind to debut at its has been approved for introduction into the UK, making it the first advanced driving assistance system to enable true hands-free driving at highway speeds in Europe. In Spain, Ford was also the first car manufacturer to allow its customers to drive hands-free on the highway.

“We believe BlueCruise can make highway driving easier and more enjoyable, whether you’re in stop-and-go traffic or on a long road trip. And with this latest ruling, we can help even more customers throughout “Providing Europe with access to BlueCruise,” said Ashley Lambrix, general manager of BlueCruise, Ford Motor Company. “Expanding the availability of Blue Zones beyond the UK, Germany and Spain is also a big milestone for us, as we enable our customers to use BlueCruise for a multi-country road trip.”

When BlueCruise is activated, the system controls steering, acceleration and braking, lane positioning and the safe distance from the vehicle in front by monitoring road markings, speed signs and evolving traffic conditions – from the maximum permitted highway speed to a complete standstill in a traffic jam.

Drivers using BlueCruise in blue zones can drive without touching the steering wheel at all, as long as they continue to pay attention to the road in front of them. To ensure that drivers keep their eyes on the road while their hands are not on the steering wheel, a camera below the instrument cluster checks the driver’s line of sight and head position – this also works when wearing sunglasses.

You can now take advantage of a free 90-day trial to find out how BlueCruise can make long journeys or stop-and-go traffic more pleasant and stress-free. Following the free trial, you can activate an annual or monthly subscription, which can be canceled or renewed at any time. This monthly subscription model makes it easy to activate BlueCruise at a time that suits your needs.
