The ice hockey players union and the sports union younion are pleased about the successful start of the first “showcase” camp for young professionals and players without a contract in the Heidi Horten Arena in Klagenfurt. Originally planned in the Ferlach ice rink, the camp was moved to the KAC arena due to better conditions.
Excellent conditions in Klagenfurt
The five-day camp runs this week and not only offers the 30 players in attendance valuable ice time, but also the opportunity to showcase themselves and show their skills to potential new clubs. The participants are trained by the brothers Patrick and Chris Harand as well as Mathias Lange.
Target group expanded
This year’s showcase is open not only to players without a contract, but also to union members who want to prepare for the start of the season. “A learning from this year’s first camp is that the end of July is too late for players looking for a club, as most teams’ squads are already full. We would therefore like to do it earlier next year,” explains organizer Patrick Harand.
Personal presentation in focus
In addition to the playful aspect, the showcase offers participants the opportunity to show their personal side. Coaches and managers can use this opportunity to get an idea of the different characters of the players, as this factor plays a crucial role in team composition these days. On the first two days, numerous club representatives were on site to see the players in action.
Opportunity for Austrians who have been to the USA and Canada
“Some of the players taking part in our Ice Hockey Players Union Showcase have been working overseas for a number of years. That’s why it’s a good chance for these young athletes to present themselves on the Austrian market. We are very happy that many clubs were already there. Media representatives are also welcome all week,” says Patrick Harand.
