younion sports union: Agreement on a new collective agreement in Austrian football

Increase in the minimum salary and other contract benefits

Vienna (OTS) The younion sports union and the Bundesliga have agreed on a new collective agreement for footballers. The contract offers a long-term perspective for fair pay and security for employees in football.

Among other things, the minimum salary will be increased:

  • From July 1, 2025 the minimum salary increases to 1.800 € (Increase of 9.1%)
  • From July 1, 2027 there will be a further increase 1.950 € (plus 8,3%)
  • From July 1, 2029 the salary will increase 2.090 € increased (increase by 7.2%)

These adjustments reflect efforts to offset inflation in recent years and to create a reliable salary structure for the future.

Additional contract benefits

Thanks to the new collective agreement, the clubs now have the opportunity to pay their players and other employees a tax-free bonus of up to €3,000 annually. This measure expands the regulations that already exist in other sectors and strengthens the financial recognition of club members. There is also general agreement that the model contract should be revised, supplemented and simplified as early as autumn this year.

Calm and solution-oriented negotiations

Thomas Pichlmann, representative of the younion sports union: “The atmosphere during the negotiations was characterized by determination and respect. The result is a testament to our joint efforts to continually improve the conditions in Austrian football.”

Dr. Christian Ebenbauer, CEO of the Bundesliga, added: “With this agreement we have gained planning security for clubs and players for the coming years. In football, together with younion, we have once again completed very calm and solution-oriented negotiations – compared to wage negotiations in other sectors – from the results of which young players in particular benefit at the beginning of their careers.”
