More women also turned to a permanent solution for hair loss, since the number of female patients who underwent surgical hair restoration in 2024 increased by 16.5 % compared to 2021.
The ISHRS members reported continuous growth in the area of hair recovery, which is largely due to the constant further development of hair transplantation and a variety of effective non-surgical and medical solutions to combat hair loss. In particular, the average number of patients per ISHRS member has increased by 20 % since 2021. In 2024, an average of 15 operations for hair recovery were carried out per Ishrs member and month. This reflects the practical relevance of the Ishrs doctors and theirs Commitment to carry out your own operations.
“People who are affected by hair loss no longer wait until the middle age, to find effective solutions from trustworthy experts such as the Ishrs doctors who devote three quarters of their Hair recovery practices on average,” said Ricardo Mejia, MD, Fishrs, President of the Ishrs. “The manageable number of hair transplants that our members carry out every month is proof that they carry out these highly complex and experience -intensive operation directly – in contrast to black market hair transplant clinics, in which technicians perform illegally hair transplants.”
The body’s hair transplant is growing While the scalp hair transplant is still the most popular form of hair recovery, the supplement of hair at other parts of the body is met with greater interest in men and women in men and women.
- The percentage of men who want hair recovery without scalpation rose from 13 % in 2021 to 18 % in 2024.
- The percentage of women who want hair recovery without scalpation rose from 17 % in 2021 to 21 % in 2024.

- After the scalp, the next highest percentage of the transplantation into the recipient area in men musterbeard/beard with 5 %.
The point of view of the patient Point of View When the ISHRS members were asked to give feedback on the perspective of their patients for hair recovery surgery, the survey showed that almost half of the patients were willing to talk to others about their intervention and that they had given certain reasons for the operation.
- ISHRS members reported that 44 % of the hair transplant patients they dealt with in 2024 planned to tell others about their hair transplant.
- ISHRS members stated that the main reason (90 %), why their patients opt for a hair transplant, is to “become more attractive/ to feel more attractive”.
- The second most common reason (63 %) from which patients opted for a hair transplant was “to look younger to be competitive at work”.
Black market continues to influence the market Dr. Mejia found that the number of complications in hair transplants on the black market increases worldwide, which has serious consequences for patients with hair loss. This is usually due to the delegation of non -approved and non -trained persons who are not doctors.
- 59 % of ISHRS members stated that there are clinics for hair transplants on the black market in their city, compared to 51 % in 2021.
- ISHRS members reported that the average percentage of repair cases due to an earlier black market hair transplant was 10 %, compared to 6 % in 2021.
