Young farmers ask for consideration in road traffic

St. Pölten (ots) –

You start early in the morning, are on the road until late at night – combine wheels and tractors including trailers, in heat, dust and often under time pressure. While many think of relaxation in summer, a busy time begins for Lower Austria’s farmers: the harvest time.

“Our farmers work for all of our care and food at the table. They harvest so that Austria’s tables are covered at any time and our plates are filled,” clarifies Viktoria Hutter, chairwoman of the Austrian young farmers. In a personal appeal, she asks for patience and respect in road traffic, especially in the current harvest time!

Especially in the summer months there are increasingly dangerous situations with agricultural vehicles.

Grain cultivation in Lower Austria

Between June and August there was a high season in the fields in Lower Austria. During this time, important arable cultures are harvested, which include the guarantee for daily bread. The impressive acreage show why Lower Austria is the number 1 agricultural land in Austria:

Around 170,000 hectares are ordered with wheat, over 60,000 hectares with barley. Rye grows to around 25,000 hectares, triticale at almost 30,000 hectares. Hafer (approx. 10,000 hectares), soybeans (30,000 hectares), sunflowers (almost 20,000 hectares) and poppy (around 2,000 hectares) also shape the summer harvest picture in the country.

“These figures are proof of the important work of our farmers and confirm domestic care security. To ensure that it stays that way, we ask for consideration, especially now in the harvest time!”, Hutter concludes.
