Millstatt am See will become the stage for musical encounters from all over the world from August 5 to 10, 2025: The 18th International Guitar Festival Millstatt – La Guitarra Esencial combines sound art between Flamenco, Jazz and World Music.
A highlight of the festival: Buika, the internationally celebrated Spanish singer with roots in equatorial guinea, will give her only Austria concert on August 9th as part of her current world tour. Her voice – rough, powerful, distinctive – made Buika the icon of Latin Jazz. In Millstatt, she will give an emotionally charged concert that overcomes and touches borders. “I sing for love, for freedom and for all those who want to be heard,” says Buika.
The festival will open on August 5 with the impressive premiere of the Misa Flamenca by Antonio Gómez “El Turry”-a spiritual flamenco fair with choir and ensemble, which combines Andalusian temperament with sacred depth.
Festival director and guitarist Julia Malischnig and her team once again brings a top-class and personal program to Carinthia: “”For me, the festival is a place for me. It’s about the connecting power of music, about encounter at eye level – across genres, cultures and borders

Other program items: The JM Amistad Project by Julia Malischnig & Jule Malischke (6.8.), A double concert by Bryan Benner & Václav Fiksa with Gina Schwarz & Angelo da Silva (7.8.), Mathias Duplessy’s Trio Calvacade (8.8.), A morning concert with the Iranian duo Sara & Sanaz Zaher and the pianist Nadja Kayali (August 9th) and a final matinee with crossing strings and festival participants: inside (10.8.). Workshops and courses accompany the program.

Under this motto, the Festival La Guitarra Esencial celebrates the connecting power of friendship and artistic exchange.
