World premiere at the Caravan Salon: Ford Pro presents the Ford Nugget with plug-in hybrid and other new model variants (PHOTO

Plug-in hybrid version, optional all-wheel drive and new equipment variant: Ford Pro is presenting the new Ford Transit Custom Nugget model range for the first time at the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf. In addition to modern technologies and a wide range of equipment details, a version with an extended wheelbase will also round off the comprehensively revised range in the future. It offers even more generous space on board. This year the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf will take place from August 30th to September 8th.

  • Plug-in hybrid technology (PHEV) for locally emission-free driving and other new options increase comfort on board the versatile Transit Custom Nugget
  • The new “Active” equipment variant with a robust off-road look and optional all-wheel drive significantly expands the possible uses of the successful recreational vehicle
  • A Nugget model variant with a longer wheelbase and more space will also celebrate its world premiere at the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf (August 30 to September 8, 2024).

The new Ford Nugget PHEV will be in the spotlight at the Ford Pro trade fair stand. Its state-of-the-art plug-in hybrid powertrain combines a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with a high-voltage battery and an electric motor. It makes purely electric driving possible without local exhaust emissions. In the new “Active” equipment variant, the Transit Custom Nugget offers, in addition to a robust off-road design, optional all-wheel drive for the first time in the model’s history. Adventurous camping fans can expand their radius of action to include trips into more impassable terrain. In addition, a variant of the successful leisure vehicle with an extended wheelbase is celebrating its world premiere in Düsseldorf. It offers even more storage space in the larger wardrobe.

“With our Transit Custom Nugget model range, we are pushing the boundaries of what a compact recreational vehicle can offer,” explains Hans Schep, Managing Director of Ford Pro Europe. “We have listened to the feedback of the growing group of camper customers and offer them solutions that will contribute to unforgettable Nugget experiences: from active lifestyle upgrades and smarter space solutions to advanced powertrains such as the versatile PHEV for zero-emission driving in the City and access to tourist destinations located in zero-emission environmental zones as well as four-wheel drive for exploring hard-to-reach places.”

PHEV drive for even more efficiency and driving comfort

The Transit Custom Nugget PHEV’s plug-in hybrid drive is similar to that of the Ford Kuga PHEV. A 2.5-liter gasoline engine, which works according to the particularly efficient Atkinson principle, is combined with an 11.8 kWh battery and an electric motor. The system output is 171 kW (233 hp). In addition to confident power development for relaxed driving on long journeys, the drive concept also enables purely electric driving, for example on trips to urban zero-emission environmental zones, to quiet campsites or to nature that is particularly worthy of protection.

Instead of a conventional fuel heater, the Nugget PHEV follows a concept that enables electric heating when the vehicle is connected to electricity and relies on gas when used autonomously. The power storage can be charged from an AC power source using the standard Mode 3 or an optional Mode 2 cable.

Active equipment variant with optional all-wheel drive

Based on the Titanium equipment, the Transit Custom Nugget Active now has a particularly striking and robust exterior design. It includes exterior details made of black plastic, 17-inch alloy wheels in an exclusive look, specific LED taillights and much more. In the interior, the Active equipment impresses with highlights such as standard 2-zone automatic climate control, water-repellent and easy-to-clean seat upholstery. The Smart Camper touchscreen centralizes operation. The driver assistance system comes as standard with a camera and radar-based pre-collision assist, a reversing emergency braking assistant, a blind spot assistant including cross traffic alert and trailer detection as well as an adaptive cruise control system. On models with automatic transmission, it also includes a Stop & Go function.

In conjunction with the 125 kW (170 hp) EcoBlue diesel engine, all-wheel drive is optionally available for the Transit Custom Nugget. Thanks to the improved traction on loose and slippery road surfaces, camping fans can also use it to reach more remote destinations and overnight stays. Thanks to a maximum trailer load of up to 2.3 tons (1), the popular leisure vehicle from Ford Pro is also ideal as a towing vehicle for boat or horse trailers, for example.

Longer wheelbase for increased space on board

For further increased comfort, especially on longer trips, the Transit Custom Nugget for Titanium and Active variants is now also available with an extended wheelbase. It impresses with more storage space for luggage, and the built-in wardrobe is also larger. Adventurous customers who would like to camp away from civilization can also equip their Transit Custom Nugget with a built-in toilet in addition to the standard hot water boiler and the associated outdoor shower.

Seine World premiere The Transit Custom Nugget celebrated last year at the Caravan Salon Düsseldorf. Ford Pro developed it together with the renowned specialists from Westfalen Mobil GmbH in Rheda-Wiedenbrück. The advanced touring vehicle also stands out from the competition thanks to its well-thought-out multi-room concept. This includes, among other things, an improved kitchenette with an L-shaped layout. Its tidy surface offers 20 percent more space to work. A new, particularly practical drawer refrigerator makes access easier and also holds large, upright bottles. A 2-burner hob with a removable pot rack and integrated sink as well as a hot water supply are part of the standard equipment.

The rotating “captain’s chairs” for the driver and front passenger can be heated if desired. The Nugget’s motorhome functions are operated and controlled via a special 7-inch touchscreen with a color monitor in the living area. These include the auxiliary heater as well as the displays for the battery charge status and the water supply. The sophisticated interior lighting uses LED technology with a color-adjustable ambience mode. A tilt indicator makes it easier to align the vehicle on uneven surfaces. There is also a separate app that can be used to conveniently control these functions remotely or remotely using a smartphone.
