Work on a pedestrian and cycle path along state road B 14 between “Schauergasse” and “Feldgasse” in Kierling

Project will be completed by September

St. Pölten (OTS) Construction work on the construction of the pedestrian and cycle path along the B 14 state road between “Schauergasse” and “Feldgasse” in Kierling in the municipality of Klosterneuburg recently officially began. The work for the approximately 670 meter long section is being carried out by the company Pittel + Brausewetter. The project is expected to be completed at the beginning of September. In accordance with the three valleys cycling concept, the municipality of Klosterneuburg intends to connect the town centers of Maria Gugging, Kierling and Weidling to the town center of Klosterneuburg and to the national Danube cycle path (Euro Velo 6). The expansion of the cycle path network along the state road B 14 represents a significant part of the Kierlingtal cycle route and connects the center of Klosterneuburg with the town center of Kierling and Maria Gugging.

To make construction possible, the current lane width of the B 14 will be reduced from around 8 meters to 6.5 meters. The existing protective path over the state road B 14 in the area of the municipal road “Lorenz Böhler Weg” will be relocated on a small scale and upgraded with a traffic island. The existing bus bays at the “Stegleiten” and “Lorenz Böhler Weg” stops will be converted into peripheral stops. The new pedestrian and cycle path will be up to 3.25 meters wide. In the area of the Kierlingbach Bridge, a length of around 20 meters will be narrowed to 2.65 meters due to the system conditions. The total costs amount to around 1.1 million euros, with the municipality of Klosterneuburg being promised a maximum funding of up to 60 percent from the state of Lower Austria in combination with funding from klimaaktiv.mobil. Applications have been made to the state and federal governments for appropriate funding.

In the area of the “Marienheim” stop (corner of Schauergasse), the area between the sidewalk and cycle path and passengers will be widened to around 5.5 meters. Cycle path crossings are planned in the vicinity of the intersection with the municipal road “Stegleiten” and the junctions with the municipal roads “Haschhofstraße” and “Roseggergasse”.

This construction measure also results in an increase in quality for pedestrians, such as wider sidewalks, new stops with larger walking areas and a new protective path including a central island. It is also the goal to connect important facilities such as schools or kindergartens to cycle routes. Thanks to the bicycle crossing at the level of the “Stegleiten” municipal road, the new kindergarten can be reached by bicycle away from the main road in the future. The old tree avenue will be replaced by new, five-meter-tall, climate-friendly trees, and the green areas will be redesigned and enlarged. This project will achieve further positive effects on the environment and an improvement in the quality of life.
