Women’s Prize for Building Culture: Female civil engineers in the spotlight

Architects and civil engineers can submit for the anotHERVIEWture AWARD until June 30, 2024

Vienna (OTS) Women are still significantly underrepresented in our professions – only around 15 percent of chamber members are female. They have been making important contributions to building culture for decades. The task of the anotHERVIEWure Award is to honor these achievements – and at the same time to show young females role models. Transforming the professional fields of civil engineers in the spirit of equality and diversity benefits the quality of the built environment.

Especially in the technical field, women are still often hindered by stereotypical gender assignments, male-dominated networks and working conditions that are incompatible with other life demands.

The anotHERVIEWture AWARD is awarded in four categories by a 16-member jury of well-known European experts. National and international achievements are recognized in four categories. Submissions are possible until June 30, 2022. It is particularly pleasing that this year the “First Lady” of Austria, Doris Schmidauer, is taking on the honorary protection of the prize.

It is with great pleasure that I take over the honorary patronage for the anotHERVIEWture Award. This project was initiated by women in technology for women in technology and the extraordinary commitment of the committee ‘Ziviltechnikerinnen Österreichs’ of the Federal Chamber of Architects and Consulting Engineers is exemplary, effective and, in my view, deserves broad support. – Doris Schmidauer

The goals of the Women’s Prize for Building Culture, which is being announced for the second time, are:

  • Increasing the proportion of women in technical professions
  • Making the contribution of women to building culture visible
  • Networking and empowering women in technical and planning professions
  • Creating role models for young women
  • Raising awareness that the advancement of women (especially in the field of technology) is still important and necessary

Architects and chartered engineering consultants are responsible for crucial developments that bring us closer to climate neutrality in 2040. In this field, where women are clearly underrepresented, it is important to not forget but showcase their contributions. Giving women this platform to present their outstanding and innovative projects not only empowers them but underlines the need to view necessary changes as a combined effort. – Federal Minister Leonore Gewessler

The project is supported by the Federal Ministry of Art, Culture, Public Service and Sport, the German Chamber of Architects, the German Chamber of Engineers, the Swiss Association of Engineers and Architects (sia), the Federal Real Estate Company, ScherbaumSeebacher Rechtsanwälte GmbH, Aon Austria and the four state chambers of civil engineers :inside and the Federal Section of Civil Engineers of the Federal Chamber.

Who are civil engineers?

Civil technician is a specifically Austrian job title for freelance, state-authorized and sworn people who work in the fields of architecture and engineering. They are experts in the respective subject areas of a technical, scientific or mining field of study.
