In the heart of the eighth district, the Viennese Josefstadt, two entrepreneurs impressively show how female economic power can be inspiring across generations. At the generation talk of Ms. Vienna (FIW Vienna), two women meet who not only do spatially close together, but are also connected to each other by their passion for entrepreneurship.
Margarete Kriz-Zwittkovits, CEO of women in the Vienna Business: “Vienna’s women are increasingly establishing themselves in the Vienna Economy as important players. Women in the Vienna Economic Affairs, a network of the Vienna Chamber of Commerce. No economic area can still be avoided today. We are proud of our Viennese entrepreneurs.”
Two generations, a common goal: entrepreneurial success with heart and handshake quality.
Alice Schlossko is a well-known entrepreneur in Josefstadt: the 76-year-old is the owner of the traditional Café Strozzifor decades meeting point in the eighth district and a place where Viennese coffee house culture is lived. Schlossko embodies a generation of entrepreneurs who have experienced many changes and challenges. Your message to everyone who plays with the idea of making yourself self -employed: “Tell yourself! Be brave – it’s worth it!”
The young entrepreneur Astrid Köberl has been the owner of the Wiener Backsalon in the Josefstadt. With her sensitivity to sweet creations and modern access to gastronomy, she stands for a new generation of entrepreneurs who assert themselves with innovative ideas and a lot of commitment to the Vienna Economic Scene. “My passion to bake started as a hobby, today I can live well from my motif cakes,” said the young entrepreneur. Your formula for success: “Just make it! And get support, for example at the Vienna Chamber of Commerce.”
More entrepreneurs for the Josefstadt
The figures also show that women like Alice Schlossko and Astrid Köberl significantly shape the local economy: in which the Josefstadt has increased the number of active sole proprietors in recent years. While 844 women were still self -employed in 2015, it is currently 871 – an increase of around 3.2 percent. “These figures show that women in Josefstadt courageously implement their entrepreneurial ideas. The step into self-employment is an important way for many women to work independently and self-determined,” emphasizes Margarete Kriz-Rz-Zwittkovits. The increase in founders in the age group 55 to 59 years with an increase of 32 percent is particularly remarkable. “This proves that entrepreneurship does not know an age limit,” said Kriz-Zwittkovits.
Equal opportunities as a key
At the same time, the industry structure is shifting: industries such as “tourism and leisure management” (+21.2 percent) and knowledge -intensive industries such as “Information and Consulting” (+32.7 percent) have strong growth. “Women in the Josefstadt conquer new business areas and thus create valuable impulses for the district,” explains Kriz-second kovits. Despite these positive developments, Kriz-Zwittkovits also sees further need for action: “We have to facilitate access to networking and resources and create more awareness of female entrepreneurship. We can ensure that even more women opt for the step into self-employment.”
A strong sign of more visibility
With events such as the generation talk, woman in the Vienna Business makes visible how diverse and lively female entrepreneurship is in Josefstadt. “Whether established size or brave founder-they all contribute to the economic and social strength of the district,” says Kriz-Rz-Zwittkovit: “Our goal is to network, make and support entrepreneurs even more-in all phases of their entrepreneurial path.”
Vienna’s economy is female
Vienna’s women are increasingly shaping the economy: “Women in the Vienna Business”, a network of the Chamber of Commerce, supports entrepreneurs who work with 50,658 companies, especially in retail, services, catering and social affairs. Margarete Kriz-Zwittkovits emphasizes that women are of course part of the economy today and that diversity is a key to success. The aim of the network is to encourage women to courageously pursue their entrepreneurial dreams in order to establish Vienna as a model for economic equality and innovation.
