Symbolic protest with real demands – animal welfare organizations and #teamwolf face the political course of Agriculture Minister Norbert Totschnigg.
In the middle of Vienna, directly in front of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Climate and Environmental Protection, Regions and Water Management, they appear: costumed “wolves”, which demonstrate peacefully for their survival with banners and demands. A powerful campaign with a clear message – and a political appeal that is supported by 75 % of the population:
While Minister Tettschnigg shakes the legal protection of the wolf, civil society raises the alarm. Despite EU-wide protection status, the wolf is shot down in Austria-most recently even more often than in much larger Germany. A new survey shows: Three out of four Austrians: Inside the wolf’s return.
#TeamWolf is now bringing this protest directly in front of the ministry. The focus is not only on the symbolic wolves – but concrete demands:
- No more illegal kins
- Comprehensive, corrupted herd protection instead of scapegoat policy
- Scientifically sound monitoring
- Protection of the forests by natural regulation of game stocks
