“With Vienna University of Applied Sciences funding, we are securing promising educational opportunities and skilled workers”
Vienna (OTS) –

SPÖ local councilor and chairman of the local council committee on finance, economics, labour, international affairs and Vienna public utilities, Kurt Stürzenbecher, emphasizes the relevance of the city of Vienna’s planned funding for universities of applied sciences, which will be decided at today’s local council meeting. “This funding provides decisive impetus for a diverse and future-proof educational offering in Vienna. It offers young Viennese excellent qualification opportunities and creates the basis for well-trained specialists that the Viennese economy urgently needs,” said Stürzenbecher.

The Progress Coalition invests in the quality and further development of Vienna’s universities of applied sciences through funding for universities of applied sciences, thereby creating an incentive that raises Vienna as an educational location to a new level. “With a total budget of 30 million euros, spread over the coming years up to 2034, the city of Vienna is continuously ensuring that the universities of applied sciences adapt to technological and economic policy developments,” explains the local council. An amount of up to 950,000 euros can be awarded per funded project.

The funding includes calls for proposals on the topics of “quality assurance of teaching and study conditions”, “internationalization”, “infrastructure for teaching and research” and “training-related research and development”. Stürzenbecher emphasizes: “These measures support the city of Vienna’s goal of making the training and business location future-proof and attractive. Vienna needs well-trained specialists in order to remain competitive as an economic metropolis.”

Thanks to the funding of universities of applied sciences, Viennese universities of applied sciences degree programs are given the best possible support in their development and networking with relevant research topics is promoted.

“We are working shoulder to shoulder with the universities of applied sciences to keep Vienna as the most livable city in the world – through education, innovation and well-thought-out economic development. Today’s resolution is another important step in this direction,” concludes Stürzenbecher.
