With the WiG project, young people recognize their own strengths and learn media skills

Vienna (OTS) –

Traditional role models, unhappy relationships, beauty trends on social media, discrimination and bullying based on one’s appearance: these are just a few examples of issues that concern young people in their everyday lives and cause uncertainty. Especially in the period of growing up, which is already characterized by many changes, it is important that young people acquire health literacy and recognize what is good for their own well-being. In the “I am beautiful” project run by Vienna Health Promotion – WiG, young people learn in a workshop lasting several days how they can meet these challenges and are supported in naming their strengths and developing good self-esteem and media skills. “Conflicts, family crises or relationship problems can be very stressful for young people and have a negative impact on their mental health. The ‘I am beautiful’ project starts here and gives young people the opportunity to contribute their perspectives and realities of life. It’s not about external appearance, but rather about recognizing your own abilities and developing strategies for your own well-being in order to be able to deal with the challenges in everyday life. Because that is essential for young people to grow up healthily,” says Dennis Beck, Managing Director of Vienna Health Promotion – WiG.

Final presentation and certificate awarding – over 30 young people discussed how to deal with bullying in a healthy way, traditional role models or unhappy love

This year too, more than 30 young people took the opportunity to take part in the workshops. Over several days, the participants from wienwork Integrative Betriebs und BildungsgmbH – FLANKE WIEN and weidinger & partner GmbH discussed what meaning “I am beautiful” has for each individual. They dealt intensively with the realities of their lives and talked about bullying, traditional role models, unhappy love relationships and the role of social media. They incorporated their interpretations individually into their own media products. In addition to the content and discussion, the young people learned about film and photo production techniques that were immediately applied when developing their own media products. The results in the form of interviews, videos, photos or podcasts were very creative and were presented to an audience at the final event. As a thank you for your participation and a token of appreciation, there was a certificate awarding ceremony afterwards.
