On Thursday, July 3, the Porr Night from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Times of upheaval. Egon Schiele’s last years: 1914-1918 to visit free entry. So far, around 100,000 visitors saw this first comprehensive show about the last years of the outstanding expressionist Egon Schiele (1890–1918), whose birthday was on June 12 for the 135th time.

In cooperation with PORR AG, the Leopold Museum also invites you to Porr Night every first Thursday of the month from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. every first Thursday of the month from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. As an art promotion with special reference to Viennese modernity, Porr also offers interested parties the opportunity to participate in free tours through the permanent presentation Vienna 1900. Departure in modernity. Since the first Porr Night in January 2022, thousands of visitors have been enjoying a free cultural experience in the Leopold Museum as part of this successful cooperation.
Enjoy summer with the Porr in the Leopold Museum
In the summer of 2025, the Leopold Museum on two levels of exhibitions of art in Vienna around 1900, from Art Nouveau to Expressionism, including works from Gustav Klimt, Broncia Koller-Pinell, Koloman Moser, Josef Hoffmann, Richard Gerstl, Oskar Kokoschka Uva on the basis of exquisite exhibits from the Leopold collection and prominent permanent bonds Possibility to immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere of the turn of the century, an era whose pioneering artistic, intellectual and social developments have not yet lost its fascination.
Vienna 1900: Focus on urban development and architecture
In the permanent exhibition Vienna 1900. Departure in modernity the view is addressed on the topics of urban development and architecture. This focus is also on the Free guided tours illuminated as part of the Porr Night. The construction of the Wiener Ringstrasse as the most extensive urban development project in the Empire Austria-Hungary enlarged and condensed the city of Vienna. In 1873, by commissioning the Kaiser-Franz-Josef high-source line, the Danubeetropolis received the first nationwide supply with flawless drinking water, combined with the construction of a huge system of water pipes and channels for wastewater disposal. The Vienna Stadtbahn was also built around 1900. The route of the originally steam-powered inner-city railway is still partly used by the Viennese subway and the S-Bahn.
Another highlight of the Porr Night: the large Schiele exhibition Times of upheaval
Egon Schiele, whose work was created in almost ten years of work, is known primarily for those picturesque main works and drawings in which he processed his own feelings from 1910 and dealt with the tornness of an entire generation based on the human figure. Schiele’s later Oeuvre is less present from 1914, which differs noticeably from the earlier work. His line calmed down, the presented gained in physical abundance and reality. Especially the private and historical upheavals and events from 1914, such as the outbreak of war, its wedding with Edith Harms (1893–1918) and the tedious life as a soldier, had a lasting impact on his work. The Leopold Museum moves with the exhibition Times of upheaval. Egon Schiele’s last years: 1914-1918 For the first time, the work explicitly came into focus from 1914 until the early death of the 28-year-old artist in October 1918. Using 130 works from international museums and private collections, the exhibition interweaves biographical and artistic elements and for the first time presents the previously unpublished diary of his wife Edith Schiele. The Porr Night offers the opportunity for a free visit to the large Schiele show, which can only be seen until July 13th.
