Every year, DDSG Blue Danube invests around half a million euros in modernizing the fleet. On December 31, 2023, four ships will go on a New Year’s Eve cruise.
Vienna/Linz (OTS) – Over 300,000 passengers board the seven DDSG Blue Danube ships every year to rediscover the Danube in Vienna and the Wachau. The fleet sets off on scheduled and popular themed trips 364 days a year and transforms into a floating event location when chartered. This year, in the somewhat quieter winter period, three ships are heading upstream towards Linz to be brought up to the latest technical standards.

The over 36 meter long MS Wien, which has been sailing under the DDSG Blue Danube flag for ten years, and the over 40 meter long MS Vindobona in the striking Hundertwasser design will receive new air conditioning this winter. The two ships are mainly used in regular services in the federal capital and show their passengers the most beautiful sides of the Danube metropolis. The 57 meter long MS Kaiserin Elisabeth is also swapping the blue Danube for the dry dock. The modern ship, which is often used for private and corporate events and offers space for up to 280 passengers, is getting a new floor on which you can dance on charter and themed trips.
No winter break for the crew
The DDSG Blue Danube nautical team, led by the fleet captain, is involved in the maintenance and modernization work Johannes Kammerer involved and contributes his skills. The apprentices at Austria’s largest and most traditional inland shipping company in particular appreciate getting to know the ships in the dry dock from a different perspective and acquiring new practical knowledge.
Four ships leave on New Year’s Eve
Before heading to the shipyard, the MS Wien and the MS Kaiserin Elisabeth say “cast off!” again on New Year’s Eve. Together with the MS Admiral Tegetthoff and the MS Dürnstein they will sail at the turn of the year. On board, guests can look forward to culinary fireworks and, of course, the sounds of the Danube Waltz. The last remaining tickets are still available ddsg-blue-danube.at/silvester available.
