The WienMobil bike – Wiener Linien’s bike sharing offer – is currently being used aspern Seestadt is being expanded across the board and is gradually replacing Seestadt’s own rental bike system. As a pioneer north of the Danube, Seestadt created the “SeestadtFLOTTE” bike rental service back in 2015, making it an important and popular part of its mobility concept. This was financed entirely from the mobility fund, which comes from the levy for compulsory parking spaces in collective garages aspern Seestadt dines.
„As the district continues to develop aspern Seestadt is now taking the next step in expanding its sustainable mobility offering. In order to ensure expandability in the future and to promote better networking with the surrounding area, the rental bike system will be completely transferred to the city-wide WienMobil bike system. This is another important measure we are taking to achieve our ambitious modal split goal. The current target values - 40% of all journeys should be made by public transport, by bike or on foot and only 20% by motorized individual transport – will be further refined. By 2035, 85% of all routes should be on the environmental network
“, emphasizes Robert Grüneisboard member of the development company Vienna 3420.
Comprehensive bike rental system for everyone
In addition to the four existing WienMobil bike stations, another four will be added in spring 2025, which will primarily open up the youngest district “Am Seebogen” in the north of Seestadt. The locations were selected so that each station can be reached within a maximum distance of 200 meters. They are located at important traffic junctions and in front of the VHS Kulturgarage event location (see overview map).
„The newly constructed locations include both stations with fixed docks for parking bicycles and stations where bicycles are parked in an area with floor markings between two bicycle racks. Two new cargo bikes and bicycles with integrated child seats complete the expanded offering. Only when all four new WienMobil bike stations have been built in Seestadt will the SeestadtFLOTTE locations be dismantled
“, explains Andreas Neisenwho is responsible for mobility planning at Vienna 3420.
It remains possible to rent cargo bikes (“Grätzlrad”) free of charge from the district management (Hannah-Arendt-Platz 1) in Seestadt.
„The new WienMobil bike station in Seestadt is another small milestone in our efforts to make transport in Vienna sustainable and environmentally friendly. I’m pleased that we can get even more people excited about cycling with our rental bike offering
“, says Wiener Linien managing director Alexandra Reinagl.
Anyone who has a WienMobil annual subscription can ride the bike for free for the first 30 minutes. The standard fare is EUR 0.75/30 minutes, regular Wiener Linien customers travel more than 50% cheaper at EUR 0.35/30 minutes. The e-cargo bike regularly costs EUR 2.50/30 minutes – the regular customer discount of 50% also applies here.
As a special goodie, users of the SeestadtFLOTTE and Neo-Seestädters have the opportunity to receive a voucher for 15 euros for the WienMobil bike until the end of March.
