Where Austria is challenged after the election | Society for securing the future and pension provision
Vienna/St. Lambrecht (OTS) –

The outlook is bleak. Economic researchers have predicted that Austria is at risk of recession for the second year in a row this year. The number of company bankruptcies is increasing. The future federal government must tackle securing Austria as a business location and consolidating the budget. Against this background, the St. Lambrecht think tank, which has been a platform for interdisciplinary debate on all issues of social security and economic development in Austria since it was founded in 2008, will be advising and discussing next week from Wednesday, October 2nd to Friday, October 4th, on the general topic “People – the basis for economic strength and provision”.

The conference location is the Styrian Benedictine monastery of St. Lambrecht. The range extends from education to pensions. Under the academic direction of the Vienna University Professor of Labor and Social Law, Wolfgang Mazal, the discourses will discuss the importance of economic growth to ensure prosperity and quality of life for Austria’s population. The program on Thursday, October 3rd will include a lecture by Innsbruck University professor Martin Senn on the “crises in the world” combined with an outlook on “perspectives for the coming years”. The head of the economic policy department at the Chamber of Commerce, Claudia Huber, will deal with the economic and structural challenges for economic policy.

The St. Lambrecht think tank also addresses the issue of education, which has only played a minor role in the current National Council election campaign. Thomas Mayr from the Institute for Economic Educational Research focuses in his presentation on the sustainability potential of education. Further education expert Gudrun Biffl from the Danube University Krems will deal with the topic of “Harmonious society versus old structures with new players”. As part of a fireside chat, the two Viennese university professors Ednan Aslan and Matthias Beck discuss the topic of “Sustainable social cohesion”.

The focus of the three-day event is primarily on issues relating to old age security – from specific pension concepts to the problem of the future of pensions. The pension expert at the Economic Research Institute (Wifo), Thomas Url, will focus on “Pension reforms in Europe” in order to provide a basis for discussion and show possible solutions. At the end, the President of the Austrian Senior Citizens’ Association, Ingrid Korosec, will make suggestions as to how pensions should proceed.

DenkWerkstatt St. Lambrecht 2024: “People – the basis for economic strength and provision”

Austria is recording a decline in births, the “boomers” (born in the mid-50s to around the end of the 60s) are retiring, the education system is in disarray, the economy needs skilled workers, immigration is necessary. We are taking on this range of topics in this year’s DenkWerkstatt St. Lambrecht.
