Brave water lovers swam for victory at the New Year’s Eve swim at Lake Achensee. Costumed swimmers also plunged into the winter water.
Pertisau (OTS) – The “ice-cold pleasure” at the turn of the year has long been a tradition on Lake Achensee in Tyrol. For the 21st time, die-hard water sports enthusiasts delighted spectators again on December 31, 2023 with an entertaining combination of boldness and humor. After a refreshing “shock cooling” with a bucket of water on land, the participants plunged into the lake to swim 25 meters to an iceberg floating in the water. Once there, as always, we had to ring the New Year’s Eve bell and swim back to shore.
First place winners received prize money of 1,000 euros
Almost 80 participants took part this time and the daring water lovers had to demonstrate a lot of cold resistance: five degrees Celsius water temperature, three meter jump height and a total of 50 meters swimming distance – these were the challenges for the “Sport” category The swimmers competed in pairs in a battle against their inner weaker self. Became fastest among women Theresa Danzer (01:03.77). The German came in for the men Soren F. (00:51.68) crossed the finish line first. Marian Ebenbichler Again, with his time of 01:28.36, he managed to come closest to the mean time of all participants (01:29.11). The winners were rewarded with a total prize money of 1,000 euros.

In the special “Fun” category, prizes were awarded to the most creative water lovers. Among others, “Snow White and the Four Dwarfs” and the “Climate Adhesives” ventured to the start in funny costumes with their motto “Save the New Year’s Eve swimming”. With their imaginative outfits and daring jumps, they drew lots of applause. The participants were rewarded with non-cash prizes for their heroic efforts and their original costumes.
