In 2023, 1,000 women received “green socks” during their stay in a certified gynecological center – knitted with love and positive thoughts from “unknown people”.
Vienna (OTS) – Many pelvic cancer patients suffer from cold feet due to therapy. This was the reason and reason for Andrea Krull, chairwoman of “Ovarian Krebs Deutschland eV”, to start the “Green Socks” campaign in Germany in 2013. In 2021, Andrea Krull, Cancer Aid CEO Doris Kiefhaber and Brigitte Senger from “knitandshine” also brought the campaign to Austria. Within a very short time, countless knitters in Austria joined in and knitted “green socks” for abdominal cancer patients.
Socks are issued by “certified gynecological centers”
Following the example of the German campaign, Krebshilfe collects hand-knitted green socks throughout Austria and regularly supplies them to certified gynecological centers (listed below www.unterleibskrebs-oesterreich.at ), which are passed on free of charge to pelvic cancer patients during their stay in the respective center. There are currently no certified gynecological centers in Salzburg, Burgenland and Lower Austria. In these three federal states, socks are distributed to abdominal cancer patients as part of the cancer support consultation.
Krebshilfe received 1,000 pairs of hand-knitted “green socks” and says THANK YOU!
We are overwhelmed that this year we once again received more than 1,000 pairs of green socks for abdominal cancer patients. What a touching sign of solidarity!
Cold feet are actually a problem that many patients suffer from as a result of therapy. I am pleased that we can implement the campaign together with our colleagues in the certified centers.
My customers and I are excited about the campaign. I have a large treasure chest in my store where socks can be dropped off. Many people put loving wishes for the future wearers in the socks.
