Wandering shepherd Thomas Schranz proves that effective herd protection is possible on every mountain pasture

Schranz is speaking today on Radio Orange and in the VGT chairman’s podcast “Tierrechtsradio” about his experiences and the fact that he is giving up because of bullying against his family

Nature is not there for us, we are merely guests and have a duty to reduce our impact as much as possible in order to preserve intact ecosystems for posterity. Schranz shows us how it works. If we only listen to him!

Vienna (OTS) Almost every state government in Austria has now issued illegal regulations regarding the shooting of wolves. In Tyrol, this was justified, among other things, by the fact that practically all alpine pastures, including those where successful pilot projects have been running for years, cannot be protected. Wandering shepherd Thomas Schranz from the North Tyrolean Oberland in the Samnaun Mountains on the border with Graubünden can only laugh about this. Wolves from Switzerland have been visiting him and the 200 sheep he looked after for many years. In contrast to most other alpine pastures, he looked after his flock of sheep and protected them in the night pen with a flock protection fence. He then took in an additional 6 livestock guard dogs. He will be talking about his very positive experiences on Radio Orange today from 10-11 a.m. and in the VGT chairman’s podcast “Tierrechtsradio” from Sunday. Despite encounters, he is not afraid of wolves and bears; it is much more dangerous in the city at night. Herd protection, he says, works wonderfully on the mountain pastures if you really want it to. However, the official side doesn’t want that. Schranz announces his withdrawal from the Alpine pastures on the radio. The terror against his family by those in the country who agitate against the wolf, exterminate it and act as a traitor against anyone who protects the herd, prompted him to do this. The interview is a shocking document about how conventional agriculture treats nature and the people who want to protect it.

VGT chairman DDr. Martin Balluch conducted the interview: “Mr. Schranz knows an incredible amount about sheep, herding, nature and herd protection. Terrorizing such an expert instead of tapping into his knowledge is bottomless stupidity on the part of those responsible in the country. The state governments are so backwoods that they would rather exterminate wolves and destroy nature instead of coming to a sensible arrangement. Nature is not there for us, we are merely guests and have a duty to reduce our impact as much as possible in order to preserve intact ecosystems for posterity. Schranz shows us how it works. If we only listen to him!
