“Wages instead of pocket money” – SPÖ social spokesman Muchitsch sees the smoke regulation as “a beginning”

Vienna (OTS/SK) Fair conditions – in particular an appropriate wage, independent health and pension insurance – for the around 28,000 people with disabilities who work in day-structure facilities (“workshops”) are one of the 24 projects from the SPÖ’s “Heart and Brain” plan . Today, Minister of Social Affairs Rauch presented a new funding guideline that approaches this goal. “This is a start, but unfortunately the Minister of Social Affairs stops halfway,” says SPÖ social spokesman Josef Muchitsch. “The program is limited to 2026, what happens after that? And it is underfunded. The funds provided only cover around a quarter of what is needed,” explains Muchitsch. ****

The SPÖ’s proposals:

* Inclusion of people with disabilities working in day structures (occupational therapy) in statutory health and pension insurance through collective wages instead of pocket money.

* In the medium term, there must be complete equality between employees and employees in day-to-day structures.

* Establishment of an inclusion fund, which is modeled on the care fund by the federal and state governments and from which social insurance and other measures that improve the equal participation of people with disabilities in economic, cultural and political life are financed.

Most recently, the governing parties ÖVP and Greens postponed the SPÖ proposals in the Social Committee on June 27th. (End) wf/bj
