W24 shows the Vienna city government’s annual opening meeting | W24

Vienna (OTS) W24 editor-in-chief Hannes Huss and MEIN WIEN editor Christine Oberdorfer discuss with Mayor Michael Ludwig and Deputy Mayor Christoph Wiederkehr exclusively on W24 the results of the Vienna government meeting, which took place for the first time in the converted Vienna Museum. “Making Vienna livable and affordable – consistent measures in challenging times,” was the motto of the red-pink retreat at the start of the year.

Governing Vienna in times of crisis

The coalition of SPÖ and NEOS has existed in Vienna for over three years. The corona pandemic, the war in Ukraine and the Middle East and, last but not least, inflation are considered challenging. There will also be new elections in Austria this year. Both the EU elections and the upcoming National Council elections are coming up. At the local level in Vienna, high inflation continues to be a major concern for Viennese people.

Mayor Michael Ludwig and deputy mayor and city councilor for education Christoph Wiederkehr explain their joint plans to cushion inflation. Specific projects should come into effect from 2024, such as the “New Rental and Housing Assistance” or the effects of the current new building subsidies. Both parties are committed to strengthening social housing in Vienna and to urgent measures to strengthen social security and the associated fight against radicalization. Overall, further relief for families in Vienna is also planned.

Climate, education and energy

The expansion of all-day schools in conjunction with healthy lunches, the fight against child poverty, climate-friendly renovation measures such as the “Out of Gas” initiative and the associated path to achieving the 2040 climate goals are also topics in the talk with W24 and MEIN WIEN.
