The Association for Housing Promotion (VWBF) welcomes the SPÖ’s latest initiative for affordable housing in Austria.
Vienna (OTS) – „The measures demanded by SPÖ chairman Andreas Babler serve to secure affordable housing and provide concrete answers to the current challenges for the non-profit housing industry
“, says VWBF chairman Michael Gehbauer.
Reservation of building land for social housing
Modernizing the Land Acquisition Act is an important step. This enables more targeted use of building land for social housing.
Reserving at least 50% of the newly dedicated building land for non-profit housing is a courageous measure to improve access to affordable housing and strengthen the necessary new construction. Experience with similar measures in the spatial and building regulations of the federal states shows the enormous potential of such approaches.
„By reserving building land for non-profit housing, we can not only create affordable housing immediately, but also ensure the need for affordable housing for future generations
“, says VWBF chairman Gehbauer, referring to the generation contract in the WGG (Housing Non-Profit Act).
Housing construction and renovation aid strengthens social housing
The federal financial aid announced today in some media, which the VWBF has been calling for for a long time, represents an important financing commitment to support non-profit housing construction. These funds are needed to realize new residential projects, renovate existing houses and upgrade them ecologically. Stable financing is crucial to ensure the quality and sustainability of social housing in the long term and to achieve the 2050 climate target.
Impulses to stimulate the construction industry
These measures also serve to stimulate the economy. The Austrian construction industry is in a difficult situation due to the decline in building permits and the expected decline in orders, which has already occurred in some cases. Investments in residential construction also secure jobs and the future of the construction industry in Austria.
Constructive collaboration for a sustainable solution
With its proposals, the SPÖ has once again proven that the issue of “affordable housing” is one of its core issues and that it would like to play a key role in shaping this policy area in the future.
„The VWBF is ready to actively participate in the implementation of these demands and supports all measures that enable safe and affordable housing for all sections of the population
“, said VWBF chairman Gehbauer at the end.
