Mr. Kraus’s claims are simply false – Vienna People’s Party for rapid implementation
Vienna (OTS) – “The fact that a practical draft for the legal framework required for traffic calming in the inner city has been available for months is incorrect,” said the traffic spokesman for the Austrian People’s Party in Parliament, member of the National Council Andreas Ottenschläger. And further: “After a year of work on the part of the ministry, which resulted in a half-baked and impractical draft law in the fall, after critically reviewing the draft, we put forward the proposal to involve experts in order to finally bring about a workable solution.”

The Vienna Greens’ statement that the People’s Party ‘surprisingly announced a renewed need for discussion today’ is in any case not correct. Ottenschläger continued: “The People’s Party and the Greens agreed in November that the BMK’s draft should be discussed in advance by a group of experts before it is assessed. Unfortunately, the BMK has not yet invited people to this agreed consultation.” In the upcoming 35th amendment to the StVO, without expert discussions and revision, no legal framework for the implementation of the traffic-calmed inner city can be created.
It is clear that the People’s Party continues to advocate for a traffic-calmed inner city and the planned camera-based system. “The Vienna Greens would be well advised to inform themselves and, if necessary, ensure within their own party that the necessary legal framework can be put in place. The people of Vienna expect that the transport projects promised to them, such as the Lobau Tunnel and now the traffic calming of the inner city, will be consistently implemented by all those responsible,” concluded Ottenschläger.
