VP-Marchetti/Taborsky: Escalation of violence in Favoriten: Demand for decisive action

Transparent surveys, violence prevention and increased networking as the key to curbing violence

Vienna (OTS) In view of the alarming increase in acts of violence and the drastic increase in juvenile crime in the Favoriten district, representatives are reacting. e.g. National Councilor, district party chairman of the Vienna People’s Party Favoriten Nico Marchetti and the security spokesman of the Vienna People’s Party, local councilor Hannes Taborsky as follows: “In Vienna, and especially in the Favoriten district, we are experiencing a worrying escalation of youth violence. “It is now high time for our city to do effective prevention work and take concrete measures to reverse this trend.”

Marchetti adds on the current situation: “The federal government implemented a weapons ban with Interior Minister Gerhard Karner and has already set up a youth crime task force. But where is the contribution of Mayor Ludwig and the responsible city council Wiederkehr to counteract the escalating youth crime?”

Taborsky also calls for consistent action from the City of Vienna: “We have seen in the past that cooperation between the federal government and the City of Vienna is not only possible, but can work efficiently. The weapons ban and the police recruitment campaign alone have proven this – we also need such constructive cooperation in the 10-point action plan to combat youth violence recently presented by City Councilor Mahrer.”

This action plan includes, among other things, the demand for transparent collection and publication of figures on violent crimes in Viennese schools, comprehensive violence prevention, and increased networking between schools, the police and the judiciary.

“It is necessary for the city to take action. Now we must take decisive measures to ensure the well-being of all Viennese,” Marchetti and Taborsky concluded.
