Good idea fails due to organizational failure in the city
Vienna (OTS) – What is characteristic of the Vienna city government is that people are presented with a fait accompli. This is also the case with the intended switch to e-mobility for Vienna taxis. Accordingly, from January 1st, 2025 only electric cars will be registered as taxis. However, the responsible city councilor Ulli Sima has not yet managed to provide the necessary charging infrastructure.
“Taxis are an integral part of our city’s passenger transport and are indispensable for many people. At the same time, it is important to significantly reduce emissions here too. We welcome the city’s funding in the area of e-mobility, from which taxi drivers benefit. “But it is completely unthinkable that from 2025 only electric vehicles will be registered as taxis if there are not yet enough powerful electric charging stations that can guarantee efficient everyday work for taxi drivers in Vienna,” said state party chairman City Councilor Karl Mahrer.
“The fact that from 2025 only new licenses will be issued for e-taxis completely ignores the reality of the taxi industry. “We see here an example of typical left-wing dreams that are basically well-intentioned, but are not implemented in reality,” said finance spokesman local councilor Manfred Juraczka.
“The city government’s policy of looking the other way must end. It is important that we reduce our emissions in Vienna and take targeted measures to achieve this. As long as the SPÖ and the neos cannot guarantee that there is enough charging capacity in Vienna, we cannot force taxi drivers to change. We welcome the continuation of sensible funding incentives for e-mobility, but demand a realistic date for implementation. City Councilor Sima, finally make our city fit for the future!”, concluded Mahrer and Juraczka.
