VP-Mahrer/Hungerländer: Support for new regulations on family reunification

Stocker’s push for family reunification is particularly important for Vienna

Vienna (OTS) Referring to today’s statements by the Secretary General of the Austrian People’s Party, the state party chairman of the Vienna People’s Party, City Councilor Karl Mahrer, is pleased. “We are glad that in Christian Stocker we have a general secretary who clearly names the problems.”

If a foreigner has been granted asylum status in Austria, family members can currently submit an application for an entry permit to an Austrian representative authority abroad within three months of this status being granted.

“In Vienna we are currently experiencing a situation in which we can no longer control the situation – especially in the education sector – due to the high level of family reunification. The approach that someone who wants to bring their family to Austria should also prove that they can provide for them is as sensible as it is welcome,” said the Vienna People’s Party’s integration spokeswoman Caroline Hungerländer.

The challenges of migration, especially in combination with education, are not new. The Vienna People’s Party presented its measures against youth violence weeks ago, which are currently being negotiated with the Vienna state government. One of the many measures also addresses internal migration. “Vienna not only met its admission quota of 180 percent, but exceeded it. “We must therefore address grievances, such as the illegal surcharges from the basic provision to the minimum security for those entitled to subsidiary protection,” Hungerländer continued.

“I am convinced that we have to move from talking to doing as quickly as possible, so I hope that the negotiations with the Vienna city government will be successful,” concluded Mahrer.
