Decision shows: For Gewessler, ideology is more important than law
Vienna (OTS) – After Climate Protection Minister Leonore Gewessler announced that she would vote for the EU renaturation law at the meeting of EU environment ministers, the state party chairman of the Vienna People’s Party, city councilor Karl Mahrer, reacted with sharp criticism: “It is unbearable that Gewessler is following her behavior Around the Lobau Tunnel, ideology is once again placed above law. Your planned yes is a clear violation of the law and an unprecedented approach by putting your own supposed conscience above the rule of law. This is unacceptable in a democracy.”
And Mahrer continues: “It is strange that the responsible city councilor Czernohorsky and the Vienna Greens support this violation of the law in their initial reactions. Instead, we need constructive and sustainable solutions, no populist measures and certainly no violation of the law,” emphasizes Mahrer and concludes: “The climate protection minister’s decision breaks the constitution and laws. This is impossible in a constitutional state and must have consequences.”
