VP Mahrer ad Violence in Brigittenau escalates

Syrians and Chechens in dangerous clashes

Vienna (OTS) The recent outbreaks of violence in Brigittenau have left residents in fear and terror. Clashes between Syrian and Chechen groups have increased in recent weeks, pointing to the emergence of parallel societies and the long-term impact of the SPÖ and neos integration measures.

“This escalating violence must be prevented decisively. The city government must take immediate measures to ensure security and coexistence in Brigittenau,” said state party chairman City Councilor Karl Mahrer in an urgent appeal.

The escalation of conflict between the two groups has reached worrying dimensions. Reports of fights and violent confrontations are increasing. Residents’ fear is growing as clashes often take place in busy residential areas and public places.

“The events in Brigittenau are a clear sign of the failure of the city of Vienna’s integration efforts. We urgently need a revision of the existing strategies, a stop to migration from the federal states to Vienna and a stronger focus on prevention and consistent integration,” said Mahrer further. Mahrer calls for concrete measures to curb violence and promote integration, but also to demand more increased and flexible police presence, including through the newly created special units, and also to prevent communities from tending to isolate themselves. “Only through a comprehensive and sustainable integration policy “We can prevent the formation of parallel societies and ensure peaceful coexistence,” concluded Mahrer.
