VOR: Overall overview of the construction site schedules for the eastern region from June 29, 2024

Structural infrastructure measures are necessary to sustainably expand the public transport network.

Vienna/Lower Austria/Burgenland (OTS) Route modernizations, expansion work and maintenance measures are necessary for a better long-term public local and regional transport system, but can result in timetable changes, longer journey times and additional transfers during the measures.

The Eastern Region Transport Association (VOR) has the most significant foreseeable timetable changes and closures in the Eastern Region www.vor.at/sommerbaustellen2024 clearly summarized. This means that passengers can obtain central information about, among other things, the measures and effects of construction work on ÖBB passenger transport, Wiener Linien, Vienna Local Railways, Mariazellerbahn, Raaberbahn and regional bus lines.

All public transport connections for this period and beyond are in the VOR route planner AnachB.VOR.at, available in the VOR AnachB app as well as the information systems and apps of the VOR partners. The Eastern Region Transport Association recommends that passengers plan their journey or trip with sufficient time reserves and find out about their connection before starting their journey.

“The expansion and modernization of the rail infrastructure in the eastern region makes an important contribution to the sustainable improvement of public transport in the eastern region. The numerous measures taken by our partners in the VOR ensure that local and regional public transport becomes more efficient, more reliable and more comfortable and can meet people’s mobility needs in the long term,” says Karin Zipperer, spokeswoman for the VOR management: “We regret the inconveniences that construction sites can cause and ask our passengers to understand that they are necessary to optimize public transport in the eastern region.”

ÖBB: Bundled construction measures for rapid implementation

In order to continue to bring commuters quickly and conveniently to the federal capital, in addition to the modernization and digitalization of Vienna’s main route, three sections along the Northwest Railway, the Northern Railway and the Southern Route will be completely or partially closed at the same time from June 29, 2024. This means that structural infrastructure measures can be carried out quickly and without long-term disruption to train traffic in the eastern region. On the southern route, passengers can use VOR regional bus routes. Valid ÖBB tickets are issued by VOR, during the period of restrictions, recognized as valid tickets in both directions.

Further timetable changes result from the adjustment of travel times in order to ensure connection security between trains and buses in regional bus transport.

Wiener Linien: Operating restrictions in close coordination with the City of Vienna

When it comes to construction planning, Wiener Linien cooperates closely with Vienna’s city administration departments. In this way, it is possible to carry out necessary earthworks such as sewer renovations or district heating connections at the same time as the construction work on the tracks.

Some of the comprehensive modernization measures, such as large-scale track replacements, underground renewals or tunnel girder renovations, are only possible if operations are interrupted, such as the renovation of the U4 tunnel girders. The U4 cannot run between Schwedenplatz and Schottenring between June 29th and September 1st. Passengers can use lines 71 and U2Z. These will be extended and go to Schwedenplatz.

Modernization work on the Badner Bahn route

From July 1st to September 1st inclusive, the entire Badner Bahn track infrastructure will be renewed in the area between the Neu Erlaa and Schönbrunner Allee stops. During this period, the Badner Bahn runs in a shorter time, from Quartier Belvedere to Inzersdorf Lokalbahn and from Vösendorf-Siebenhirten to Baden Josefsplatz. In the Inzersdorf Lokalbahn area to Vösendorf-Siebenhirten, a replacement bus service is in use.

Everything from a single source: the VOR AnachB app

With the VOR AnachB app you can easily and quickly find the current timetables, special timetables and construction site timetables for public transport. The free app can be downloaded from the App Store and Google Play Store.

Eastern Region Transport Association (VOR)

As the largest transport association in Austria, VOR combines public transport in Vienna, Lower Austria and Burgenland. VOR is entrusted with the planning, coordination and optimization of public transport for around one billion passengers every year in these three federal states. The core tasks include tariff and timetable design as well as customer service and the awarding of transport services. In addition, regional and city bus services as well as part of the rail transport services in the eastern region are commissioned by VOR. The transport association’s experts also act as initiators and contacts for intelligent and intermodal mobility beyond the eastern region.
