Volkshilfe Wien Häupl: Poverty eats democracy, solidarity strengthens democracy

Michael Häupl was confirmed as president at the general meeting of Volkshilfe Vienna and took stock of the current social situation.

Vienna (OTS) At the general meeting of Volkshilfe Vienna on June 20th, Dr. Michael Häupl confirmed as honorary president of the social organization with 100%.

Rising rents and energy costs mean that more and more people are at risk of losing their homes. Every fifth child in Austria is affected by poverty. The increasing need for nursing staff is offset by a lack of workers.“In his keynote speech, President Michael Häupl takes stock of the current social situation. “As Volkshilfe Wien, we not only offer answers to the big social questions, but also work on their implementation every day. Whether in securing housing, in our demand for basic child security or in the fight against the impending care shortage: we stand side by side with the people of Vienna.

“It’s not for nothing that Volkshilfe Wien’s motto is “Helping makes you strong”. Because solidarity strengthens us as a society,” says Tanja Wehsely, Managing Director of Volkshilfe Wien, and is pleased with the result of the general meeting: “President Michael Häupl, together with all people’s helpers, shows this solidarity in the fight against poverty and injustice every day.

“Poverty eats away at democracy, solidarity strengthens democracy,” concluded Wehsely and Häupl, once again calling for more social cohesion in times of crisis.
