Volkshilfe Vienna welcomes the reorganization of Vienna’s rental assistance

Affordable housing is the best protection against homelessness. The reform of Vienna’s rental assistance is a relief for tenants in Vienna.

Vienna (OTS) “The wave of inflation has long since become a wave of poverty,” emphasizes Tanja Wehsely, managing director of Volkshilfe Wien. Rising rents are the biggest driver of inflation. “For many people there is no longer enough money. In our daily work in social counseling and housing security, we see that more and more people from the so-called middle class are falling into poverty.” And further: “The reform of rental assistance presented today primarily relieves the burden on those people affected by poverty who are particularly affected by the inflation crisis: single parents and minimum pensioners.

“The right to housing is a human right,” concludes Wehsely and demands: “Only a rent cap that really works will protect people in Austria from homelessness in the long term!
