The Green top trio Werner Kogler, Leonore Gewessler and Alma Zadić, today presented the Green Water Protection Plan with demands to guarantee our clear drinking water. “We Greens stand for consistent water protection in Austria. We have been fighting for binding soil protection for years, because soil protection also means drinking water protection. With the climate crisis and the associated increasing periods of heat and drought, every square meter of healthy soil is becoming more important: for our groundwater table and as a water reservoir. Water is the basis of life and we also have the incredible luxury of being able to enjoy our drinking water, which is one of the best in the world, straight from the tap. Let’s maintain this quality for ourselves and future generations and give water protection the priority it deserves,” says Olga Voglauer, Secretary General of the Greens, on the water protection plan presented today by the Green top trio.
With the water protection plan, the Greens today presented one of their priorities for the National Council elections in the fall. In addition to soil protection, this includes the right to cool down, groundwater monitoring and drinking water fountains in every central, public place in Austria. “The climate crisis is now and we have to protect our livelihoods today in order to give everyone a future worth living tomorrow,” says Voglauer.
