Vital Materials publishes Quantum Flux Photon Counting CT (PCCT) with complete vertical integration technology

From August 15th to 17th, the 31st International Exhibition for Medical Devices and Scientific Conference (China-Hospeq 2025) took place in Beijing. Vital Materials officially presented the Vita Genesis, China’s first fully developed photon counting CT (PCCT) scanner. Global medical imaging technology is thus entering the age of the “Quantum Flux” sensor and Chinese innovations in precision diagnostics and therapy.

The photon counters (Photon Counting Detectors, PCD) as core technology The PCCT differ significantly from conventional energy integration detectors (Energy Integration Detectors, Eid). Conventional CT scanners need X-ray photons, which must first be converted into visible light and then electrical signals. In contrast, the PCCT detector uses semiconductor materials in which X-ray photons stimulate electrons and produce electron-hole pairs proportionally for photon energy. Charging carriers from the couples are separated by an electric field to create electrical impulses. Application -specific integrated circuits (ASIC) categorize these impulses according to energy areas and thus enable precise photon counting and energy resolution. This breakthrough provides crucial technical support for multi-energy spectral imaging and thus significantly improves the diagnostic value of medical imaging.

At the moment, three materials are mainly used in the PCCT detectors: Cadmium-Zink-Zink-Zink-Zink-Zink-Zink-Zink-Zink-Zink-Zink-Zink-Zink-Zink-Zink-Telluride, Cadmium-Delluride (CDTE) and deep silicon. Due to its outstanding detection skills, CZT is developing into a breakthrough for the next generation medical imaging technology. The core value of Vita Genesis lies not only in the use of a detector solution based on CZT based, but above all in pioneering work in the control of the complete vertical integration technology of PCCT. This includes cleaning and connecting metals with ultra-high purity, breeding and processing of single-crystals, the construction and development of components, the integration of CT systems and the development of imaging algorithms, which creates a global paradigm in the area of PCCT.
