On August 10, 2024, the 52nd regular Bundestag of the Austrian Student Union met with around 250 guests in the Palais Kaufmännischer Verein in Linz. There, Upper Austrian Vincent Reisner was elected as the new federal chairman of the student union with 98.2%. At his side, Julian Schindler was appointed federal manager of the association.
“In recent years, everyday life in Austrian schools has changed significantly due to developments such as advancing digitalization. As a student union, we stand for courageous educational policy, want to actively work for our vision of the ideal school and seize the opportunities that await us in the coming year!” emphasizes the newly elected federal chairman, Vincent Reisner.
“We are incredibly proud of the preparatory work of the last few years and now want to build on that. We accept our responsibility as the largest student organization and therefore an important mouthpiece and want to continue to inspire with passion in the coming year. What we are also proud of is that we are able to appoint the federal school representative for the 20th time in a row!” says Julian Schindler, the new federal managing director.
With over 30,000 members, the Student Union is probably the most important voice for Austria’s students. The voluntary commitment of the numerous officials makes services such as the school legal emergency hotline and numerous seminars, events and projects possible. In the coming school year, the student union will again have a clear majority with 23 of 29 mandates in the Federal Student Representative Council (BSV). The student union also holds the majority in the state student representatives (LSV) in the nine federal states and the central student representative (ZSV). Through this constructive and professional representation work, the student union advocates for the concerns of Austria’s students to educational policy makers.
