“The current figures of the Austrian integration fund confirm black and white what we have been observing in Vienna for years: Our education system is on the brink. Almost half of the Viennese students do not speak German at home, and the first graders at elementary schools are now almost every second child of extraordinary students, because it cannot be enough German to follow the lessons. Anyone who still claims that everything is consciously closely closes before reality” Harald Zierfuß, club chairman and education spokesman for the Vienna People’s Party.
The rapid increase in the extraordinary students is particularly worrying. A dramatic development that the Vienna People’s Party has always pointed out critically. “Within two years, the proportion in Vienna has increased from 36 to almost 45 percent among the first graders. We even speak of more than two thirds of the children in districts such as Margareten, Favorites or the Brigittenau. This clearly shows that Vienna has completely failed during language support in kindergarten,” criticizes Zierfuß.
The Vienna People’s Party therefore calls for a clear package of measures. Above all, this provides for mandatory language stand surveys for all three -year -olds and all -day kindergarten obligation for all children with a need for German. Since German funding in kindergarten happens primarily in everyday life, it is finally necessary to introduce a level plan to increase the specialist child key as well as language support training and a C1 language level for the entire kindergarten staff. Furthermore, there is no way around pairing kindergarten funding to the quality of German funding in kindergartens in Vienna.
“The SPÖ/NEOS city government has to finally act. We need a clear integration policy with German as a key to education-not excuses and beautiful dyeing. And above all no steady passing of responsibility, as is currently practicing on the part of the city council Hacker,” said Zierfuß.
