Vienna’s found boxes are becoming safer

Vienna’s found boxes are becoming safer
Vienna (OTS) –

More security for foreign property – this is the goal of the round renewal of the 100 red found boxes in the city started at the beginning of the year. Theft and vandalism are to be prevented and the objects thrown by honest citizens should be better protected. “This is made possible by an improved design and a slightly adapted design: the first new found boxes have already been set up, the exchange is continuously and should be completed at the end of the year,” said the responsible city councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky.

The red metal boxes are near Magistratic district offices, at the Vienna City Hall, at all Viennese manure sites and in the vicinity of many police stations. They are all accessible around the clock – with the exception of those on manure sites – and can be called up in the online city plan of the city of Vienna or in the 48 -app.

The throw -in flap for larger everyday objects such as bags, keys or hoods was improved. In order to prevent discharged objects, the opening has been narrowed and the inner counter flap has been improved and the petrol chip chipboard is adapted for the narrow throw -in slot. Lighter material for the throw -in flap will make it easier to operate when throwing in. In the design, you continue to rely on the proven red, an optimized label with tips and tricks to better find your lost “Hab and Guts” complements the new boxes.

Submit lost property!

“Losing and finding something in a million city is often an impossibility. It is therefore nice to see that the Viennese use the found service for a big city and hand over lost items. The employees at the central find service of the 48s do everything possible to find the right owners. If this is not possible quickly, the finds will be kept safely, ”says climate councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky.

There are many honest finders in Vienna who either use the found boxes or also submit more valuable finds directly to the district office or found service. Almost 125,000 finds found their way to the central find service of the 48s in Siebenbrunnenfeldgasse 3, 1050 Vienna in 2024. Of these, more than 57,000 finds (around 46 percent) were given to their lawful owners. The top 5 of the items cast are ID cards and documents followed by wallet, cell phones, keys and bags or suitcases. There is always curiosity like DJ desks, a Lego Star Wars star destroyer, a bagpipe, a ventilation doll for resuscitation exercises or paintings.

Tips for frequently lost items

  • Enter a free loss report www.fundamt.gv.at On and describe your loss object as well and in detail as possible (brand, size, color, serial number, abnormalities, etc.).
  • Fake photos of valuable objects.
  • Cell phones: IMEI numbers/serial numbers of the cell phone and SIM card can be picked up (you can find the packaging)
  • Key: Write down the specified numbers
  • ID cards: Please be patient and do not have it new, it sometimes takes something for things to be found and handed over
  • Backpacks: Provided with names clearly visible – especially with children’s backpacks
  • In general, if something has been lost: the more clearly the objects can be described and the more precisely the objects were marked, the greater the chance to get them back.
