The free offer “chat in the library”, which the Vienna health promotion – WIG launched last autumn in cooperation with the libraries of the city of Vienna in the 11th district, is in the second round. “We are pleased that the project ‘chatting in the library’ after the pilot established itself well last autumn. People can supply themselves with fresh reading material and at the same time establish new social contacts. That is why we are happy to continue the 2025 offer, ”says Dennis Beck, Managing Director of the Vienna Health Promotion – WIG. In cooperation with the city of Vienna, libraries on Leberberg and in the Simmering education center offers young and old a way to come together, talk and exchange in an informal framework. “With ‘chatting in the library’ we want to address older people in particular. Because unfortunately they are often affected by loneliness, ”emphasizes Beck.
From February 7 to April 24, 2025, the moderated meetings take place alternately every Thursday and Friday in the library on Leberberg and in the library in the Simmering education center. “Chatting in the library” is aimed at all people who have joy in telling themselves or who would like to listen to others and want to get to know new people from the neighborhood or the surrounding area. The meetings are directed by experienced moderators of the Sorgetetz association, are free of charge and accessible without registration. The program includes predetermined topics on selected dates. On other dates, all participants are invited to contribute and shape them according to their interests.
