The future of mobility is quiet, networked and climate -friendly. This applies to the public expansion as well as to private transport. Vienna Energie ensures that electric car drivers in the capital can conveniently and reliably recharge your batteries. “From Liesing to Donaustadt: Vienna already has the densest shop network in Austria – and more and more people are refueling at the over 2,800 publicly accessible charging points,” explains Peter Hanke, city councilor for economy, finance and the Viennese municipal utilities. “With every further expansion of the charging network, together with Vienna Energie, we make the switch to climate -friendly mobility more attractive and actively drive the turnaround in the traffic.”
Record numbers for loading processes, 600 new charging points
Vienna operates more than 2,200 of the more than 2,800 public loading points and over 250 quick loading points in the greater Vienna area. The green electricity in the shop network of Austria’s largest energy supplier flows in maximum numbers: in 2024, the million mark at loading points of Vienna could be broken for the first time with 1.2 million charging processes. Compared to the previous year, this results in an increase of over a third. “Electromobility is the key to climate -friendly private transport. Due to the consistent expansion of the charging infrastructure in Vienna, we get the future of mobility even more rolling with every new charging point. The figures speak for themselves: In 2024, our Vienna energy charging points were invited as much than ever before. We not only make an important contribution to decarbonization and independence from fossil fuel imports, but also increase the quality of life of the Viennese, ”says Michael Strebl, CEO of Vienna Energie.
Electric car drivers invited more than 28 million kilowatt hours to Vienna Energy charging points last year, an increase of around 40 percent. This corresponds to about 45,000 trips from Vienna to Paris and Retour. The country’s largest energy supplier continuously works on a future fit of infrastructure expansion. In 2024, the company built a total of 600 new charging points. With 220 charging points over a third are open to the public. In addition, the locations for 200 other public charging points were agreed with the city of Vienna, the completion of which takes place in 2025. Overall, Vienna is planning energy this year the construction of 900 new charging points.
Load made easy
Charging beads in particular were electric car drivers in 2024 on December 13th – this Friday a total of 6,070 times were invited. In general, e-car drivers in Vienna invite more during the week: From Monday to Friday, the utilization at public charging points is about 40 percent higher than on weekends. The “Hotspot” of the charging processes is the fast charging park at Margaret belt 74 in Vienna-E-car drivers can load their electric cars particularly efficiently at ten ultra-fast charging spots-an average electric car loads for 100 kilometers of range. More than 33,000 times were invited to the Margaret belt quickly charging in 2024, and the location is also well located for commuters. The other favorites under the charging stations after charging processes are Morzinplatz (1010 Vienna), Siebernstergasse (1070 Vienna) and Amerlingstrasse (1060 Vienna).
