The federal capital was elected. Around 1.4 million people were called to decide on the future composition of the local council or state parliament as well as the district representatives. The election was originally only due in autumn, but the government parties SPÖ and Neos decided in January. The polling stations were open at 7:00 a.m., the election is uniform at 5:00 p.m.
