The Vienna Climate Tour recently stopped at the VHS Meidling. The team of experts from the climate tour visited the VHS location with two cargo bikes on the topics of circular economy and nutrition to provide insights into issues relating to climate protection, resource conservation and sustainable nutrition.
Interactive climate education
The climate tour not only offers theoretical basics, but also practical tips on how you can contribute to climate protection through sustainable consumption and resource-saving lifestyles. The stations on the circular economy and nutrition met with great interest: While the cycle on the circular economy showed visitors ways to recycle and avoid waste, the cycle on sustainable nutrition made it clear how important the use of regional and seasonal food is.
“It is our responsibility to encourage people to make a contribution to climate protection – we want to make a particularly low-threshold contribution to this with our climate tour,” emphasizes Climate City Councilor Jürgen Czernohorszky.
“We are very pleased that the climate tour is also stopping off in our district. It’s great to see how many people are interested in climate protection and want to take action. This is exactly the opportunity in Meidling – with the Meidlinger climate team,” says Meidlinger district leader Wilfried Zankl happily.
Partnership between the city and educational institutions
The director of the VHS Meidling, Walter Schuster, was also enthusiastic about the event: “Visit to the Vienna Climate Tour enables us to explain the topic of climate protection in a practical and motivating way. Educational institutions in particular have the responsibility to prepare the young generation, but also across generations, for the challenges of the future.”
With its low-threshold and everyday approach, the Vienna Climate Tour sends a strong message about how important education and awareness are in the fight against climate change.
The Vienna Climate Tour will continue to be present at various locations in Vienna in the coming weeks in order to continue to raise awareness of climate protection issues and motivate the population to take action.
This is the Vienna Climate Tour
As part of the Vienna Climate Tour, a fleet of eight e-cargo bikes has been on the move throughout the city since 2022: The topics of the individual bikes cover a wide variety of areas of life – from nutrition to green space, water and species protection to energy and circular economy as well as mushroom Wheel that stands for climate education. One focus is the Vienna Climate Roadmap, which sets out the city’s path to climate neutrality.
Each theme wheel is a multifunctional information carrier; in addition to tips and suggestions for climate protection in everyday life, there are things to try out and experiment with. In addition, you can ask questions of city experts and find out about the big picture of the climate crisis and the city’s activities. The climate tour travels throughout Vienna and visits public places, parks and events.
