Grätzlbudget is looking for Grätzlidee: From now on the GB* is looking for exciting ideas
Vienna (OTS) – The “Neighborhood Treasure” initiative of the Urban Renewal Area Management (GB*) is entering a new round and will be carried out in five neighborhoods this year – in Simmering, in Hernals, in Floridsdorf, in the Donaustadt and in Liesing. Ideas can be submitted until May 24, 2024. Residents also have the opportunity to register for the Grätzlrat, the resident jury. The district council is scheduled to decide at the beginning of June which ideas will be supported by the neighboring treasure. 3,000 euros are available in each area, and this year the neighboring treasure is endowed with a total of 15,000 euros.
Gaál: “At ‘Neighborhood Treasure’, local residents have a say in the design of their neighborhood! I’m looking forward to lots of exciting ideas!”
“At ‘Neighbour’s Treasure’, local residents have a say in shaping their neighborhood and become active together. A lot is possible – from street festivals, neighborhood cafés or creative workshops to swap events and neighborhood gardening. In this way, each and every individual can contribute to successful cooperation. The ‘neighbor treasure’, the budget for your idea, and the GB* employees support you in this. I’m looking forward to lots of exciting ideas!” said Vice Mayor and City Councilor for Women and Housing Kathrin Gaál at the start of the Neighborhood Treasure initiatives in five neighborhoods.
Neighborhood Treasure initiatives strengthen the sense of community in Grätzl
The Urban Renewal Area Management (GB*) has been committed to good coexistence in the city for 50 years. With initiatives such as the Neighbor Treasure, the community and cohesion in the Viennese neighborhoods are strengthened. People get to know each other through joint projects and activities and can actively help shape their neighborhood.
This year there is the opportunity to submit ideas online or directly to the Urban Renewal Area Management (GB*) in five Viennese neighborhoods. Who will share the “neighbor treasure” will be decided by the Grätzlrat – a jury made up of people who know the project area because they live, work or are already active here. The ideas selected by the Grätzlrat will be supported with a total of 3,000 euros per area for the selected projects.

In these five neighborhoods there is a neighbor’s treasure
Neighboring treasure Hyblerpark, 1110 Vienna: Help shape the Grätzl
In Simmering, the neighborhood around Hyblerpark – between Litfaßstraße and Urschenböckstraße in the north, Am Kanal in the southwest and Rautenstrauchgasse and Zippererstraße to Lorenz-Reiter-Straße in the southeast – is the focus of the Neighborhood Treasure Initiative. A lively neighborhood that has been constantly growing and renewing itself since the 1950s. The GB* invites residents to use the neighborhood treasure to submit ideas for the neighborhood and implement them together.
Neighboring treasure Dornerplatz, 1170 Vienna: Together for a lively Hernals
In Hernals, the neighbor treasure takes place in the area of Dornerplatz and the adjacent Kalvarienberggasse. The GB* has been involved here since 2020 with various participation formats in order to strengthen cooperation. With the help of the Neighborhood Treasure, residents can now submit their own ideas for their living environment, vote on them in the district council and shape the neighborhood together.
Neighborhood Treasure Donaufeld, 1210 Vienna: Here’s to being a good neighbor
As part of the “Donaufeld Neighborhood Treasure”, residents are called upon to contribute ideas for strengthening the neighborhood in the area around Franklinstrasse, Donaufelder Strasse, Fultonstrasse, Kinzerplatz and Obere Alte Donau. Thanks to the budget from the neighboring treasure, these ideas can be implemented directly on site.
Neighboring treasure Stadlau & Hirschstetten, 1220 Vienna: New meeting places
The GB* has opened its new district office in Donaustadt, which is located at Bernoullistraße 1. In the first step, the district experts set themselves the goal of connecting people and actors in the area and supporting ideas for the neighborhood.
Neighborhood Treasure In der Wiesen, 1230 Vienna: Use potential, experience diversity
The GB* also invites residents in the “In der Wiesen” district in Liesing to take an active part in what is happening in the district. The area has grown significantly since 2019 and new, active neighborhoods have formed. This is where the GB* comes in with its Neighborhood Treasure initiative and would like to encourage even more people to get involved in their living environment.
Neighborhood Treasure: This is how the “budget for your idea” works
Neighborhoods create belonging, shared activities bring people together and strengthen a sense of belonging. The GB*Neighbor Treasure is a neighborhood budget that supports ideas for the neighborhood – from residents for residents. The submitted ideas are selected by a district council made up of members who live, work or are active in the project area.
Last year, a total of eight projects in Hernals or in the Berresgasse urban development area in the 22nd district were selected and supported with a total budget of 3,000 euros per district – including a street festival, a neighborhood café, a local market and a music workshop for young people.
This year, a total of 15,000 euros are available with the neighboring treasure – 3,000 euros in the Grätzl budget for each of the five “neighbouring treasure” areas.
