VGT protests in front of the Arena Nova on the occasion of the ÖVP Federal Party Conference

The ÖVP is the only government party that continues to refuse the pigs. Until June 1, 2025, a new regulation of the ban on the full-column floor and, no, the ban itself is not yet dry. Not only does the ÖVP want to delay the transition period to St. Nimmerleinstag, it also wants to insert a so -called “structured” full column floor as an alternative to the conventional – “unstructured” – fully column floor, but which makes no difference for the pigs. It is also particularly shocking that massive grants are still paid for full-column floor pork tapes, even for the new building. The Greens recently made an inquiry to Minister of Agriculture in Totchnig. There are still 50 % of the grants to flow into this form of animals, which is rejected by 92 % of people in Austria! That is why numerous animal rights activists gather on Saturday: inside the VGT in front of the Arena Nova, where the ÖVP’s federal party conference will take place at the time of the Federal Party Congress. To prevent protests, the ÖVP has registered 3 rallies around its party congress. And the authority has placed 50 m restricted zones against animal welfare around this several 100 m long unconstitutional placeholder demos. The VGT has influenced the corresponding prohibition.

VGT-OBSPERSON GDR. Martin Balluch: “The situation is actually very simple. The pigs suffer on full columns. The public therefore wants to get pigs a soft litter. The corresponding posture system already exists and works. An expert from the ÖVP has calculated additional costs of 35 cents per kg. The net service of the pig streaking has been put off in the past 20 years! If all the pigs were saved from the full column, the consumers: the trade in the Austrian pork would remain and the pig farms would also make profit.
