On Epiphany, the baby Jesus was presented with straw, hay and a sledgehammer in the stable to help the fattening cattle
We will never tire of opening the public’s eyes to fully slatted floors in cattle fattening.

Vienna (OTS) – Even if it does not correspond to the Christian tradition to help animals in need and to combat animal cruelty, there are still numerous texts of animal liberation theology, especially by Univ.-Prof. Andrew Linzey in England, but also in Austria, for example the dissertation “God of the Animals” by Dr. Wolfgang Kimmel. And in the spirit of this animal liberation theology, it is undoubtedly legitimate to involve Jesus in animal protection. If in theological tradition his birthplace was a stable, today it must be a fully slatted animal factory. And while he received gold, frankincense and myrrh from the Magi, today he was presented with straw, hay and a sledgehammer by VGT activists at the Human Rights Square in Vienna. The first, so that the cattle lie softly, the second, so that they are fed in a species-appropriate manner – in the cattle fattening they mainly receive corn silage and grain – and the third, so that Jesus can destroy these cruel soils in the Holy Wrath. Scientifically there is no doubt proventhat fattening cattle suffer extremely on fully slatted floors, 100% of the animals have at least minor damage to the forefoot joint, 84% even have severe damage.
VGT chairman DDr. Martin Balluch says: “Christmas and New Year are over, but the fattening cattle are still standing on a fully slatted concrete floor without straw bedding. There is still no word from the industry as to whether this can be justified or what the future should look like. The political leaders are still not moving on this issue. We will never tire of opening the public’s eyes to fully slatted floors in cattle fattening.
Today’s action was the first this year. I expect that by the end of 2024, this will result in almost 1,000 actions and protests leading to completely slatted cattle floors!”
