Mobility for everyone at the 41st Vienna City Marathon

Vienna (OTS) Austria’s largest active sports event is celebrating a festival of movement on April 20th and 21st. The success story has been running smoothly for over four decades, thanks to consistently well-coordinated measures in the areas of transport and mobility for everyone in the federal capital. This requires precise planning, cooperation, flexibility, information and then joint implementation

Close cooperation for the mobility of all interest groups in this city
“The traffic police operational and safety concept was jointly adapted for this year. And after the “uniformed bicycle service” of the LVA-Vienna has proven itself in recent years, colleagues will be there on the bike again this year. A total of around 400 police officers are on duty over the marathon weekend,” said Major General Thomas Losko, head of operations for the Vienna State Transport Department. The telephone hotline of the Vienna State Transport Department can be reached at +43 1 90600-32431.

As a mobility partner of the Vienna City Marathon, the ÖAMTC prepares all traffic information comprehensively and specifically for target groups. “From the early hours of the morning, parts of Vienna are temporarily closed or only accessible to a limited extent,” says Marc Römer, from the ÖAMTC mobility information. “The aim is, on the one hand, to allow through traffic to flow unhindered; On the other hand, all those who have to cover urgently necessary distances in the city on Marathon Sunday can also do so.”
The tailored information for all road users is available in real time throughout the marathon weekend. Römer advises all those who live in the immediate vicinity of the running route and need their car on the day of the marathon to park their vehicle in a garage or in a public parking lot outside the affected area the day before. All closures, crossing options and restrictions on public transport can be found in the cross-mode route planner on the ÖAMTC website (www.oeamtc.at/routenplaner) and the club’s app (www.oeamtc.at/apps) or below www.oeamtc.at/verkehrsservice available. The ÖAMTC information hotline 0810 120 120 also offers real-time information on marathon day.

“The unifying character of the Vienna City Marathon also reflects the good cooperation between the organizers and Wiener Linien. Together we will be able to give the participants an unforgettable run again this year. As always, Wiener Linien ensures smooth arrival and departure by bus, Bim and subway for both athletes and fans. The Wiener Linien has timed modernization work along the route so that nothing stands in the way of a sporting experience. We and the organizers are looking forward to a successful run,” said Wiener Linien Marathon coordinator Ivana Vukasovic.
