Nationwide cushioning of inflation necessary
Vienna (OTS) – Since the beginning of the year, adjusted hourly rates for the supplementary care allowance for personal assistance have been in effect in Vienna. “Vienna has thus created a cost-of-living adjustment for those entitled to it,” says Rudolf Kravanja, President of the ÖZIV Federal Association. “In view of the massive price increases in all areas of life, we are calling for corresponding increases in hourly rates nationwide! After all, inflation does not stop at federal state borders
.” A Viennese assistance user said about the increase mentioned: “As a customer who uses personal assistance, I think it’s very good and important that the hourly rate was increased by 2 euros. But now that service providers have also decided that they have to do this, the increase in the hourly rate for customers and therefore also assistants can hardly be called an increase, but at most an adjustment.”
Many people with disabilities rely on personal assistance in order to be able to lead an independent and self-determined life. “Although the Ministry of Social Affairs started a pilot project over a year ago with the aim of standardizing the system across Austria, implementation in the individual federal states is rather hesitant.
“, criticizes Kravanja: “We call on the political decision-makers in the countries to finally take action.”
