Spring brings movement to the used car market. As the current Autoscout24 used car price index shows, the average prices in the various vehicle classes have changed significantly since the beginning of the year-with winners and losers. Overall, prices have fallen on average by an average of 173 euros since the beginning of the year, which corresponds to a minus of 0.6 percent. The average offer price is currently 29,554 euros. “If you have been looking for a used small car for a long time, you will find good offers at the moment. The same applies to the growing market for used e-cars, the prices have fallen by 3 percent since the beginning of the year and the offer is growing steadily,” says Nikolaus Menches, Country Manager from Autoscout24 in Austria.
Small car again under the 15,000 euro mark
The price movement in small cars is particularly evident. With an average offer price of 14,933 euros in May, they are 624 euros below the January value-a decline of 4.01 percent. There is also a discount in other segments. Sports car, for example, gave an average of 2,553 euros (minus 3.20 percent), upper middle class vehicles by 967 euros (minus 3.10 percent). The compact class (minus 1.67 percent) and mid -range (minus 0.62 percent) presented themselves, while SUV and off -road vehicle remained almost as price -stable (minus 0.28 percent).
The prices, on the other hand, attracted a slight plus of 475 euros (plus 0.73 percent) in two segments. Vans and minibuses increased even more clearly: with an increase of 1,719 euros (plus 6.87 percent), they form the pricing field.
Now cheaper to the used electric car
There were also some noticeable price movements in the area of the drive types. This was strongest in used electric cars: the average offer price in May was 41,209 euros – that is 1,280 euros less than in January, a decrease of 3.01 percent. This means that there are currently attractive entry opportunities for buyers: inside who want to switch to electromobility.
Combined developed comparatively stable: petrol engines were reduced by 2.37 percent, diesel by 0.46 percent. In the case of alternative drives, on the other hand, the prices increased: hybrid vehicles cost an average of 908 euros more (plus 2 percent), liquid gas vehicles even by 970 euros more (plus 4.58 percent).
